Okay, I have had it…really.

I just saw a commercial for ‘Aqua Pod’ water. They had the audacity to say that because of the shape of the bottle, kids will be more apt to drink it.

What the HELL?!?! Are they trying to tell us that we’re too stupid to get our kids to drink water? Let me tell you something, this falls in line with what I hear from a lot of new parents these days.

“Oh, she/he will only eat hot dogs. I can’t get him/her to eat vegetables.”

Really? ‘Cause my kids ate veggies and chicken and not those freakin’ nuggets either. Kids will eat what they’re exposed to so why not get them used to drinking water and milk and eating healthy foods? It burns me up when I watch shows like ‘Top Chef’ and they say that kids only want greasy salty foods. It’s the duty of the parent to teach the child what to eat.

I didn’t get fast food growing up. My kids didn’t get fast food growing up, primarily because it was an expense that I felt wasn’t worth it. So I packed a lunch for us when we went out.

Commercials for ‘Capri Sun’ and all of that crap make it seem like the kids MUST have it. Well, I’m here to tell ya that they DON’T need it. Get your kids involved with meal planning. Introduce new foods to them gently. Ask them to just try whatever it is…be it hearts of palm, zucchini, or a different kind of lettuce. If they don’t like it the first time, at least they’ve tried it. Nothing burns me up more than when I hear someone say they don’t like something and then find out they’ve never tried it.

Don’t sell your kids short. They’re not stupid, they’ve just not been exposed to everything yet. It’s up to you to do your part. Don’t fall for the crap they’re selling on television. If you want your  kids to make meal time easier, you’ve got to make it easier by letting them help in the decision making process. Why not go on line and seek out kid friendly recipes that aren’t loaded with crap. Let ‘em help out. They love helping in the kitchen.
Some of my best memories with my kids is of the three of us in the kitchen making taco salad.

It’s still Tristan’s favorite meal. Food can make memories. Make them good ones, man.

Stop serving your kids substandard food just because they’re kids. If you have the kind of money to take your kids to the drive thru, you’ve got plenty to prepare them delicious and nutritious meals. Stop being lazy. It may seem convenient at the time, but it’s really only doing you harm. If their only choices are healthy ones, they’ll get into the swing of things. Believe me, you’ll all feel better.  When they get older, they’re going to make their own choices.  Help to keep them informed.

I agree. Like with Shorty, I know if she helps out in the kitchen, she’s more prone to eat what she’s “cooked”. It’s also us gals time and in addition to the time we are spending, I’m teaching them how to cook for their future.

LOL I saw that commercial and I thought the exact same thing! I agree it starts with the parent/guardian. How do you expect a child to make healthy choices if the parent isn’t. They will usually follow their parent’s example especially at a young age.

    Thanks for stopping by!

I really can’t stand this new wave of parents…it’s like they’re afraid to tell their kids ‘no’.
Man, that was NOT an option for me growing up.
And have you noticed how many kids have nut allergies? It’s amazing.
We’re creating hot house flowers who never get dirty and never eat good food.
I don’t know, man…I’m just glad my kids are grown up.
Pooper eats ‘beam beans’ by the pound (green beans)–loves ‘em with garlic and olive oil. Same thing with spinach, collard greens, broccoli…he’s a veggie lover and drinks water and milk primarily. When he has juice, it’s watered down.
How hard is that? Come on, it’s MUCH easier to cook the right foods than it is to
    re-heat crapola.

    Thus ends my rant.

    :)

Gigi was allowed to pick out a treat at the supermarket tonight. Want to know what she chose? She wanted a massive party tray with carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, and cherry tomatoes. That was her dinner. She was thrilled.

  5. pfunk Says:

Ahhh, my little Liza knows her stuff…key words here…’party tray’. She thought you were taking her to Auntie Minnelli’s place.
    Ahem.
    You’re a good mommy.
I would have been thrilled with that dinner.
Although, I have to tell ya, celery leaves me cold unless it’s IN something.
It tastes like soap otherwise…to me at least.

Kids will put anything (yes, I mean anything which you fully know if you’re a parent) when they are young so we all know it’s an aquired taste. Advertisers will do anything to make a buck…

    yep. thanks for stopping by!
The main thing that bothers is that a LOT of parents are falling for this crap.

A LOT. That is scary. We’re going to have a bunch of designer clothes wearing morons this next generation if we’re not careful.
Wait–we already HAVE designer clothes wearing morons around, don’t we?

    Yikes.

    eh.

Ah that aqua pod thing is so stupid. The claim that more kids will drink it, I just laughed so hard when I saw the commercial!

  9. Lisa Says:

I agree with you. I have a heck of a time getting my daughter to drink milk. I already know that it is because I do not (before you hit me with a stick — I am lactose intolerant so I can’t)

  10. pfunk Says:

There is LACTAID which I drink. It’s still milk.
Humans are the only species that I know of who still drink milk as adults.
I love milk, however. It doesn’t love me back. Yes, I too, am lactose intolerant. Doesn’t stop me from eating ice cream. Lactaid pills work juuust fine.
Getting back to you and your papoose…
Maybe if you are seen drinking milk (LACTAID) she’ll be more inclined to do so.
There’s also Silk, which a lot of people enjoy (i am not one of them, however)…The thing of it is that none of it is cheap.
LACTAID is nearly 4 bucks for a half gallon. I can drink a half gallon in about two days.
So, I’ve gotta be cool about it. Nothing is better than an ice cold glass of milk.
    Mmm…

Hey, thanks for stopping by and I hope you come back soon!
    YAY!
I have new people posting comments!!!

You guys rock the school just like my regulars!

I’ll have to create some kind of award or something.
Not terribly creative, I’m afraid–artistically speaking.
