What can we do?
I’ve been watching the situation in Darfur a lot recently and while I’m no expert, it seems that it’s not getting much better.
It’s my belief that we are stewards and we’re not doing such a hot job.
Here’s a link to Mia Farrow’s site. I admire her for many reasons, chief among them her commitment to children and to peace.
Take a look; there’s a lot of information about what we can do to help.

It certainly is depressing reading to see what is happening in many African countries. I actually didn’t know Mia Farrow was this deeply involved, but if someone can use their celebrity status to help - I am all for it.
I also think the news coverage from the situation in Darfur (and other African countries) has been really sparse. At least if you compare it to, let’s say, the news coverage from the Middle East. If there is a car bombing in Iraq or somebody lights as much as a fire cracker in Palestine, it is reported in the daily news (at least where I live), even if that can hardly be called “news” any more - business as usual is more like it.
In Africa on the other hand, millions of people can be on the run without it making it anywhere near the headlines.

I know what you’re saying…the news has nearly always been spotty with regard to any unrest in African countries. There is a culture of fear surrounding the Middle East so we see much more coverage.
I remember a time when we just got the news. Walter Cronkite reported what was going on and that was it.
In the late sixties and early to mid seventies we just got the facts.
I love good journalism and we see less and less of it these days.
Mia Farrow has always been an activist and I think she’s really using her head by utlizing her celebrity status and her connections.
It’s up to us to make a difference by seeing where our strengths lie and using them to benefit others.
It’s up to each of us. I don’t care where the information comes from as long as it’s accurate and helpful, ya know?
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you continue to read the blog and comment.
